IAT Spain - Leon to Córdoba via Portugal

The International Appalachian Trail is making great strides in Spain, where they have recently identified a route from León, capital of the northwest province of León, to Córdoba, a city in Andalusia once the capital of an Islamic caliphate.  In between, the route will cross Portugal, where an IAT chapter is currently being formed.

From Leon IAT Spain follows a number of historic walking routes, beginning with the Camino de San Salvador.

From Oviedo the route turns west and follows the Camino Primitivo de Santiagoand Camino de Francés de Santiago to Santiago de Compostela.

It then heads south on the Camino de Santiago Portugués to northern Portugal.

It is anticipated that the IAT will re-enter Spain at the city of Alcántara, across the border from eastern Portugal,

It will then follow the Camino Natural del Tajo to Las Villuercas, where walkers will use public footpaths and parts of various trails (i.e., Camino Natural de las Villuercas, Camino Rea de Guadalupe, Camino del Levante, Camino de los Mineros, Camino Natural del Guadiana, and Ruta del Alzoque)
